Battle of the Maroons

Ananda vs Nalanda

26th Battle of the Maroons

Ananda Captain

Dhanasiri Weerasinghe

A very aggressive right hand batsman who has scored heavily during this season. Scored centuries against St. Thomas’ and Mahinda. Possesses a wide variety of strokes. A good exponent of the liner points of the game. Bowls right arm leg spinners and googlies. An excellent fielder at the slips. Has the highest aggregate of runs this season among the schools’ batsmen.

Oval Grounds

1st and 2nd April 1955

The 26th battle of the maroons ended in a draw.

Nalanda Captain

Amarasiri Gunasena

Captain of the Nalanda Buccaneers. Takes everything on the bump, perhaps because he has hardly any bumps on his head. An attractive stroke player who has broken many a bowler’s heart and unconsciously many an admirer’s.
